Mounted Shooting

Our Mounted Shooting Program began in 2019, when we hosted a few clinics with Eric Ryan Anderson of X-treme Horsemanship. Eric is a multi year Men’s Level 6 Cowboy Mounted Shooting Champion and a Firearms Instructor with the state of Florida. These clinics spawned a passion for this fast growing sport. Cowboy Mounted Shooting mixes firearm accuracy with the speed and adrenaline of traditional Western Rodeo Sports and adds in the kind of true Horsemanship that is foundational in all our programs. Our head trainer, Evan Ackerly, is a lifelong gun enthusiast, hunter and Concealed Carry PErmit Holder who has also competed in Cowboy Mounted Shooting at Lady Lake Equestrian Center with the Florida Peacekeepers on horses he trained. We also have clients whom we have trained and coached through competition as well. We host Mounted Shooting Clinics here at Tailwind Trails, offering a systematic, controlled desentization process of introducing your horse to the sights, sounds and smells of firearms. Many clinic participants end the day shooting off of their horses, some for the very first time. Many mounted shooting clients don’t want to compete in the sport, but either have a bucket list item of shooting off their horse, or are looking to be more prepared on a Foxhunt or trail ride.
