Dressage WDAA & USDF

Tailwind Trails is thrilled to offer haul-in lessons in the art of Dressage with the newest addition to our training team, Patti Thompson.

Patti has successfully trained horses through the levels of both Western and Classical dressage, including FEI. Patti is a lifelong equestrian and brings a wealth of experience from across multiple disciplines including eventing, saddle fitting and even carriage driving. Patti continues to contribute to her growth and excellence in dressage through her robust teaching program, judging and mentorship. Among her long list of accolades, Patti holds a USDF Bronze Medal, is a USDF “L” Judge with Distinction, a USDF University Gold, Silver and Bronze Graduate with Distinction, and a WDAA/USEF “R” Judge.

Based in Wellington, Florida, Patti has dedicated her life to the Equestrian Art. Her philosophy centers on prioritizing the horse’s well being, a value that eventually led her to specialize in the growing sport of Western Dressage. She has been fortunate to work with many top equestrians, both as a rider and a judge. Her students consistently excel in competition, earning numerous accolades including a World Championship title.

Patti has a love of the Musical Freestyle classes in Dressage and has been an integral part of several teams who have either competed in or ridden demonstration rides at the annual, prestigious, Challenge of the Americas fundraiser held at The Global Dressage Festival benefitting Play for Pink which donates 100% of all proceeds to it’s sole beneficiary, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  In 2026, Patti Thompson Dressage sponsored a spectacular Quadrille team of 10 FEI riders who brought down the house with their performance.

Patti was recently honored to be asked to judge the 2026 WDAA Western Dressage Online International Challenge, which is the largest online Western Dressage competition in the world.  This year, the event boasted over 1300 entries, up from 400 in 2025, illuminating  just how popular Western Dressage is becoming and how fast it is growing.  She regularly judges up and down the East Coast and has traveled around the country sharing her passion for horses and for the art of Dressage.  Patti owns and rides two horses of her own, a stunning dark bay Andalusian gelding named Kazie and a beautiful, young blood bay Quarter Horse she affectionately calls Boo, both of whom are stabled at Tailwind Trails.  In addition to Tailwind Trails, Patti offers lessons in Wellington, Loxahatchee, Caloosa, Jupiter Farms, Boynton Beach, Palm City and surrounding areas.
