Mounted LEO/Mounted Patrol Training The team at Tailwind Trails, lead by Head Trainer, Evan Ackerly, has extensive experience training Mounted Law Enforcement and Mounted Patrol Units. We offer training in every aspect of this unique discipline, including Tactical and Ceremonial Formations, Desentization, Equitation, Mounted Shooting, Handcuffing from Horseback, and Mounted Defensive Tactics. We have worked with more than 20 separate units throughout the state, including Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit, Fort Lauderdale PD Mounted Unit, Florida Mounted, LLC, David PD Mounted Unit, City of Doral Mounted Unit, Hillsboro County Mounted Posse, Pasco County Mounted Posse & Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit, Lake County Mounted Posse, Coral Gables PD Mounted Unit, Collier County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit, Miami Dade PD Mounted Unit, and Pinellas Park PD Mounted Unit.
We have held training clinics for up to 20 riders at Jim Brandon Equestrian Center and Majestic Oaks Ocala, recorded footage used in training programs, and been invited to give the “Hawk Talk” keynote address in a joint presentation to the Equestrian & Criminal Justice Departments at Keiser University in West Palm Beach, FL. Evan Ackerly is on retainer with the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit and regularly trains both their team and their individual horses. We train horses for this specialized job and have one of our graduates on patrol with the Savannah, GA PD Mounted Unit. We offer equine consultations to agencies thinking of starting a unit, to agencies who need to revamp their programs, reduce costs or increase productivity. We also offer customized evaluations for each horse/rider pairing for progress reports or mission readiness.
